Mindfulness and Meditation Groups

Mindfulness and Meditation Groups. Our process applies various integrative and holistic techniques tailored to your specific needs.

Dr. Tara McCormick specializes in Mindfulness Meditation and Mantram Repetition, which are additional tools for increasing resilience and ability to cope. She facilitated each of these groups while working for Kaiser Permanente and at the Loma Linda VA Medical Center. These practices have been effective and complementary to therapy for many individuals.

Mindfulness is rooted in Buddhist and Hindu teachings and has recently emerged in Western culture. It was popularized by Jon Kabat-Zinn in the 1970s and is now a part of mainstream clinical practice, medicine, and science. Clinical studies have documented both physical and mental health benefits of mindfulness in different patient categories as well as in healthy adults and children. Mindfulness practice involves nonjudgmental awareness and acceptance of the present moment. It is one form of meditation and the practice focuses on cultivating awareness to one’s inner processes and experiences. Mindfulness-based therapies have shown effectiveness for anxiety, depression, pain, general emotional distress, and coping with feelings of isolation.

One intervention that fosters mindfulness is mantram repetition. Mantram repetition is an ancient traditional practice of repeating a cherished word/phrase at various times whenever needed. Psychologically, mantram repetition can mitigate immediate stressors. Consistent practice promotes resilience and deepens mindfulness, thereby promoting recovery from distress. Mantram repetition practices alongside conventional mindfulness-based practices for stress management can be integrated into daily routines to manage stress and improve coping, safety, efficacy, calmness, and stress-management resilience.

The Psykhe Center is a holistic and integrative mental health center that provides a range of services to help individuals discover a more purposeful and fulfilling life. Mindfulness practice and Mantram Repetition are complementary tools for individuals to assist with therapy. Our compassionate providers can you develop these skills and strategies for managing emotions.
